Bank sows digital seeds at Royal show

Invite to learn skills with tech team in tent

Staff at Barclays in Douglas are going to town in the country this weekend, with a big presence at the Royal Manx Agricultural Show.

The bank's technical team will help visitors explore a range of digital technologies - from online shopping and banking skills to iPad, Skype and smartphone tutorials.

Youngsters will be invited to learn the basics of computer coding to create websites, apps and games at the Code Playground.

Barclays' tent at the Knockaloe showground will also host local Student Company of Year Opus from QE ll high school, which will showcase its range of mobile phone charger cable protectors.

The bank's hoping to raise £300 for Isle of Man Hospice, by encouraging visitors to 'Ping a Pound' using a free smartphone app.

Money raised will go towards a wheelchair-friendly bench for the charity' new children's garden at Rebecca House.

Managing director of Barclays in the Isle of Man Simon Scott, said: “Barclays has partnered with the Isle of Man Government to support its Digital Inclusion Strategy to ensure all islanders have the opportunity to learn the vital skills needed to benefit from the internet and digital technologies.

“The Royal Manx Agricultural Show is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the range of digital activities the Barclays Digital Eagles provide, in an exciting and interactive way. The addition of Ping-a-Pound this year shows how advances in banking technology can help the wider community, and Barclays is proud to be supporting Hospice Isle of Man with this fundraising competition.”
