Significant investment made by Steam Packet to retain vessel
The Steam Packet has released figures which show the Ben-my-Chree has had a technical reliability record of more than 97% over the past 13 months.
The Ben completed 1,321 sailings between the beginning of January 2018 and the end of January 2019, covering some 88,500 miles and with her main engines clocking up more than 10,800 running hours.
Last April, she underwent a scheduled biennial overhaul when £1.6 million was spent on various areas above and below deck, as well as the testing of equipment and safety checks.
Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward says the figures highlight the vessel's value to the island and underlines the significant investment the company has made to retain the vessel.
