Big rise in online payments to government

The Isle of Man Government's Online Services have processed in excess of £100 million in payments since their introduction in 2007.

Last year saw a significant take-up in online transactions, with government receiving a total of £60 million from 20,000 payments.

It's estimated that over 13 per cent of the government's revenue for the current financial year will come via Online Services.

Minister for Economic Development, Allan Bell said: 'This is providing significant efficiencies and cost savings for government by reducing paperwork, administration time and payment costs.

'It also provides a secure service for residents and Island businesses transacting with government at a time convenient to them.'

In November 2010, Online Services' Individual Tax Service received first prize in the Public Sector Achievement of the Year category at the Isle of Man Newspapers Awards for Excellence.
