Charity helped to rehome greyhound

SPC supports animal rescue effort

The Steam Packet Company has helped an animal welfare charity provide a abandoned greyhound a new home in the Island.

The Greyhound Aid League Isle of Man has thanked SPC for transporting Cedar, a veteran of 46 races who's no longer wanted in the industry, from the UK.

Cedar's the 14th greyhound re homed by the charity as a family pet this year.

Greyhounds are bred for the racing industry, but every year, thousands are surplus to requirements, and according to League founder Sally McMullen, are euthanised, abandoned or exported.

The League relies on donations to bring those 'lucky' dogs taken into rescue centres, to the Island.

Steam Packet CEO Mark Woodward said: "The Greyhound Aid League Isle of Man is working hard to find homes for these animals, and as the Isle of Man is so dog-friendly it comes as no surprise that they have already been able to re home 14 greyhounds so far this year."

He added: "We are pleased to have assisted with Cedar's travel from the UK and hope he enjoys his new life in the Island."
