Douglas eGaming firm fined

Advertising standards were breached multiple times

Athol Street firm GVC Holdings has been hit with a large penalty by the UK's Gambling Commission.

The firm was fined £350,000 for multiple advertising standards breaches, originating from its subsidiary ElectraWorks.

Complaints about online ads promoting so-called 'free bets' on some of its websites were upheld, as a crackdown on misleading messages continues.

A senior GVC employee was also found to be working without a required licence, prompting a warning.

It comes as the firm is close to closing a £4 billion acquisition deal with bookmaker Ladbrokes Coral.
