Champagne and shoes: keeping it in the family
A seminar in Douglas tonight will lift the lid on what makes family-run companies tick, and explore the secrets of their success.
The Barclays Exchange event aims to give entrepreneurs and their advisors a fresh perspective on factors that drive success among businesses run on traditional lines (22 Nov).
Barclays says the secrets behind some of the world's largest, most successful companies - family-run businesses - will be revealed at tonight's debate at The Claremont Hotel.
Speakers from two family-firm brands known around the world have travelled to the Isle of Man to share their insights and experience.
Remi Krug, the former president of Krug champagne and Peter Lamble chairman of Start-rite Shoes, will share their business wisdom - helping to explain why some traditional firms succeed in today's tough markets, where public companies fail.
Start-rite, which recently provided shoes for Prince George, was established in England in the 1700s, developing a along-term approach and competitive edge which has seen them through a series of financial crises.
The Exchange will be joined by London-based Henk Potts director of Barclays global research and investments, and Nick Gordon head of specialist solutions, along with local wealth management leadership.
Open to local business owners and investors, the debate will be moderated by financial journalist and former Sky News Sunrise host Emma Crosby.
