Flybe's profits halved

Revenues up, but costs more so

Flybe's profits have halved in the first six months of the financial year, compared to the same period in 2015.

They stood at £13.4 million after tax, down exactly 50% from £26.8 million.

Flybe Group's revenue rose by more than £43 million, but its costs went up by more than £48.5 million.

Executive Chairman Simon Laffin says as passenger numbers are still rising across the industry, Flybe sees further revenue opportunities.

He adds the aviation market is tough at the moment, with excess seat capacity in the European short-haul market coupled with a weaker pound, and both business and consumer uncertainty impacting all airlines.

Mr Laffin says, however, Flybe has a robust balance sheet and cash position, and its board is confident of Flybe's resilience in this market.

The airline operates routes from the Isle of Man to Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester.
