Good news for Zero-ten

The Manx government is welcoming approval by the European Union of changes to the Isle of Man's business tax system.

The EU's Code of Conduct Group has given the green light to scrapping the Attribution Regime for Individuals (ARI).

It has also agreed in principle that the system - known as Zero-ten - will no longer be considered harmful if the ARI is dropped.

Earlier this year, the group said that aspect of Zero-ten was harmful, and Treasury Minister Anne Craine confirmed it would be abolished in her Budget speech in February.

The decision was overwhelmingly endorsed by Tynwald.

The Code of Conduct Group met in Brussels yesterday (Monday) and announced its ruling this morning.

Anne Craine is a general election candidate in the two-seat constituency of Ramsey, along with (in alphabetical order) Allan Bell, Linda Bowers-Kasch (Liberal Vannin), Lawrie Hooper, John McDonough and Leonard Singer.
