Project aims to improve mobile phone use
Island residents with a hearing loss are being invited to volunteer for a telecoms trial which could transform their use of a mobile phone.
Vannin Ventures, a business offshoot of Manx Telecom, has teamed up with Goshawk Communications to steer the second phase of a software pilot.
Sixty volunteers with mild, moderate or severe hearing loss are needed for the project, ideally pay-monthly MT customers with their own mobile phones.
The concept of using software to fine tune the audio dynamics of mobile calls for those with hearing loss has already been tested.
The next step is to trial the technology more extensively.
Vannin Ventures' technology partner Partitionware, the Wellcome Trust and the health department's Audiology Service are on board.
The trials are thought to be the first of their type in the world.
Vannin Ventures' Tom Meageen said the latest trial would take the firm "a significant step closer to our long-term goal of using this technology to deliver life-changing benefits for people with hearing loss worldwide'"
