Telecoms industry regulators from across Europe are meeting for a four day conference in Douglas this week.

The event at the Claremont Hotel from 27 - 30 April, is hosted by the Isle of Man Communications Commission and sponsored by satellite filings firm ManSat, along with on and off-island businesses, including Sure.

Sixty regulators will prepare the European position ahead of the World Radio Conference in Geneva in November.

That event is held under the auspices of the UN and sets the framework for regulation of the international ICT sector.

The delegates form a working group of administrators from the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications, CEPT .

On the agenda - proposals for new frequency allocations for space and science services and changes to International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Radio Regulations.

ManSat CEO Chris Stott said: ‘It’s a welcome and wholly unique opportunity for market-leading Isle of Man companies in the field to interact with some of the foremost telecoms regulators in Europe at a crucial time for the telecommunications industry as a whole.

He added: 'The World Radio Conference only happens once every four years and there are many challenging topics to be debated that will affect all in the global industry. The working group will touch upon all uses across the spectrum, from radio to cellular to satellite and beyond.’
