Isle of Man Post delivers the goods at Christmas

Isle of Man Post says they managed to deliver all of their Christmas post on time - despite high daily volumes and the terrible weather.

The company says the persistent gales in the Irish Sea stopped a number of Steam Packet sailings and with just days to go before Christmas mail began building up at Heysham and Birkenhead and by Saturday 21st of December there was a backlog of seven containers.

But Managing Director of Mail, Malcolm MacPherson, says everyone worked really hard and a plan was put into place to get outstanding mail from the UK.

Measures included an extra airmail flight for Sunday December 22nd and arrangements with the Steam Packet and Royal Mail to get the containers to the Island.

Over the weekend some 25,000 packets and parcels were sorted, some being delivered on Sunday and the remainder delivered on the Monday.

During December the Mails division handled 4.3 million articles down a little on 2012. Fewer Christmas cards were sent but the volume of parcels and packets has continued to increase with over 300,000 delivered on the Island.
