Japanese expert to speak at 'green' conference

The Isle of Man is to host a prestigious conference on green businesses and energy efficiency.

The inaugural 'UbrainTV 1st Anniversary Conference and Energy Tech Awards 2011' will take place at the Villa Marina on October 10.

It's being coordinated by the Manx government in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce as part of its drive to grow the 'Clean Tech' sector.

A number of 'green' businesses from Japan are looking to expand globally and the conference and awards will showcase the Isle of Man as a centre of excellence for research and development, innovation and financial services. Last month the Isle of Man launched a 0 per cent Green Business Loan Scheme.

The conference will feature guest speakers from the United Kingdom and Japan and will include a lecture on Next Generation Energy from Japan by Dr Yuzuru Ashida, professor emeritus of Kyoto University.

Senior manager for energy policy on the Island Dr Ken Milne says the event is the perfect opportunity for the Isle of Man to demonstrate to international businesses why it is an ideal location to trial technology.
