Treasury Minister Allan Bell says there are 265 public companies registered in the Isle of Man but he doesn’t know how many actually trade here.
He gave the figure in reply to a written Tynwald question from Rushen MHK Juan Watterson.
Mr Bell pointed out companies aren’t obliged to identify where they conduct their business.
He said the 265 firms incorporated under the 1931 Companies Act have registered offices on the Island.
