Seafarers on Manx registered ships can turn to a new body to look after their rights.
The Tripartite Forum is composed of ship owners, seafarers' union representatives and the Isle of Man Shipping Registry.
The stated aim of the group is ensure Manx sailors always have the best working and living conditions available.
Director of the Shipping Registry Dick Welsh says the Isle of Man was already leading competitors:
