New legislation on the horizon

The Island's financial and legal sectors say they will continue to work closely with government to ease the passage of a raft of new legislation heading their way in 2015.

On the horizon, new regulations for the emerging digital currency industry, further changes to anti-money laundering legislation, and extension of the Proceeds of Crime Act - which will bring official oversight by the FSC to a range of Island businesses for the first time.

Such changes will generate extra compliance responsibilities in the corporate service sector, as the Island bends further to international pressure on global financial standards.

It's a challenge which will require the public and private sectors to work together, to ensure the Island remains an attractive and competitive place to do business.

Island law firm Dougherty Quinn, like many in the sector, keeps a close eye on the direction new laws and legislation are sending the Island, as a jurisdiction.
