Island firms back musical's Island debut

Accountancy firm PwC Isle of Man and the Steam Packet Company are to co sponsor Douglas Choral Union's upcoming show The Producers - the first performance of the musical comedy in the Island.

Based on the Academy Award-winning Mel Brooks film, the production will run from 6 - 20 May at the Gaiety Theatre.

The show tells the story of New York producer Max Bialystock and his hapless accountant Leopold Bloom, who hatch a scam to produce Broadway's biggest ever flop, and run away with millions.

The musical ran on Broadway between 2001-2007, winning 12 Tony Awards. It opened in London's West End in 2004 and has enjoyed two UK tours.

Tony Jones, Chairman of Douglas Choral Union says the group is indebted to both firms for their support, adding " .. an incredible amount of time, work and cost .. goes into putting on a show like The Producers."

SPC will assist with the transport costs of bringing sets, lighting, costumes and other equipment to the Island, as well as sponsoring one role in the show.
