Salute to Island's best tourism providers

The best of the Island's visitor facilities have been recognised at the Department of Economic Development's 2012 Tourism Awards.

The annual awards ceremony to salute local firms and individuals who have helped develop the Island’s visitor economy was held at the Claremont Hotel in Douglas on Friday 7 December.

Entrants have to demonstrate excellence and innovation throughout their business, including their product, welcome, quality and service.

Residents and visitors nominated their chosen hotels and restaurants online and via nomination cards at locations around the Island.

Castletown gained the title of best town/village at the event which was judged by Ian Moncrief-Scott of STEP Isle of Man, Mayor of Douglas Councillor David Ashford and Mike Hennessy, Chief Executive of Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce.

The Ascot Hotel in Douglas scooped the award for best hotel accommodation, while Monaville Guest Hotel also in Douglas won the accolade for best guest accommodation.

Laxey Campsite was crowned the Island's best, with Laxey Harbour Chalets gaining the title best self-catering accommodation.

Tapas Restaurante at Port Jack was voted the Island's best eatery and Isle of Man Trike Tours was attraction of the year.

The award for event of the year was collected by the Isle of Man Walking Festival.
