Taste awards extend to street vendors

Endorsement for pop-up and mobile eateries

The launch of a new accreditation scheme is offering a hallmark accolade for Island street food vendors.

Taste - Street Food is the latest category to be added to the government's Taste and Harvest Awards.

Until now, only food outlets with fixed premises were able to apply for the awards.

The accolades are granted to mobile and casual eateries and pop-up venues which use high-quality, local produce.

Andrew Lees, Food Business Development Manager at DEFA said: "This Scheme celebrates the great work that these food producers are doing to support our agriculture and fisheries sectors, helping to maintain the Island’s high quality food standards."

"As well as being included in the Taste Guide, the scheme will also allow these local food producers’ access to the Food Business Development grants through DEFA."
