Specialist supplier sets up in Balthane

A niche tea manufacturer has opened for business in the Island.

Isle of Man Teas, which produces speciality loose and bagged teas for the UK market, unveiled its new facility at Balthane Industrial Estate in Ballasalla yesterday (8 Sept).

The firm moved to the Island in June this year in a relocation assisted by the Department of Economic Development.

It currently employs five staff resident here and has plans to expand the workforce as the business grows.

The teas are supplied to high street chains including Lloyds Pharmacy and under bespoke labels to companies around Europe.

Blends will be available in Island shops later this year - and an Isle of Man themed brand is planned.

The company has booked a stand at the Isle of Man Food and Drink Festival next weekend (17 & 18 Sept).

Director of Isle of Man Teas Richard Kennedy said: "The assistance we have received from the Department has been second to none; from help finding the right commercial property, to sourcing the right people to run our facility."

He added: "I look forward to continuing our relationship with the Department of Economic Development and getting to know the Isle of Man and its people."
