
It’s time to re-evaluate the grant support government gives to the manufacturing industry.
That’s the belief of the president of the Trades Council, Bernard Moffatt, in the wake of Friday’s announcement that 60 jobs are to go at Strix in Ramsey.
The kettle component makers is transferring the work to China, where costs are lower.
Mr Moffatt says while there’s many positives in the sector, grant aid should only be awarded to companies who supply the Island with secure and continuous employment.
