TLC offers help to Island youngsters

Manx training company, TLC Business Solutions, is offering its services for free in July and August to youngsters who need help writing a CV or preparing for an interview.

Where TLC schedules will allow, managing director, Sue Gee, and her team will offer over-the-phone advice to anyone who needs their help.

It’s that time of year again when the Isle of Man’s job market is saturated with school-leavers and those returning from university for the summer holidays.

‘I come across so many talented young people who have no idea how to sell themselves, and it’s such a shame,’ explained Sue.

‘They are really strong candidates who are more than capable of going out and getting a good job with fantastic career prospects, but they really let themselves down either through lack of preparation or the impression they give of themselves.’

The idea to offer telephone advice came as a result of the recent pilot course TLC held called ‘Preparing for the Workplace’, which was a five-day programme developed in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry, aimed solely at helping school leavers to make the tricky transition into work.

Thirteen youngsters completed the pilot scheme, which has resulted in jobs or work placements with some of the Island’s leading employers.
