Who is behind Ellan Vannin Airways?

Airport bosses say they have no idea who is behind an airline which claims it's planning to run flights between Isle of Man Airport and the United Kingdom.

Ellan Vannin Airways is advertising for cabin crew and pilots based at Liverpool, Oxford, Cambridge and the Isle of Man.

On its website, the company says it's based at EuroManx House at the Isle of Man Freeport and claims to be in talks to set up routes across Europe.

However, no approach has been made to airport managers and the firm cannot be contacted for comment.

The company's answer phone says its office is currently closed and a phone number used to register its website address is that of an optician in London.

Checks with Ronaldsway Airport also show Ellan Vannin Airways is not renting any office space at the site and the firm hasn't approached the authorities about setting up any routes.

On its website, the company says it will launch scheduled flights in 2012, and will have bases at Cambridge and Oxford.

It also claims to be moving into its headquarters at Ronaldsway in July, something managers at the airport say they are completely unaware of.
