The Department of Trade and Industry has released the results of its review into the work permit system.
Minister David Cretney (pictured) announced the wide-reaching review when he first took office following November’s general election.
The 34-page report investigates all aspects of the system and contains a number of recommendations.
They include: Having a clear policy on work permits, having valid economic data to make decisions, enforcing legislation properly, giving the public more information about work permits, urgently reviewing IT systems and having a fair and effective process for determination and appeal.
