120 hours of unpaid work for cannabis importer

Man admits supplying class B drug

A Douglas man has been ordered to do 120 hours of unpaid work, after he was caught ordering cannabis through the post.

Twenty-eight-year-old Craig Cooke of Ballaquark appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

At an earlier hearing he pleaded guilty to being unlawfully concerned in supplying cannabis as well as possessing the class B drug.

Prosecution advocate Hazel Carroon told the hearing staff at the sorting office in Douglas contacted police about a suspicious parcel on 18 February.

Police opened the package and found 50 grammes of cannabis with a street value of £1,000 inside.

After Cooke tried to collect the parcel from the Post Office, he was arrested and a search of his home uncovered a further stash of cannabis worth £32.

Cooke was ordered to complete 120 hours of community service and be supervised by the probation service for 12 months.

Magistrates ordered him to pay £50 towards prosecution costs, and the drugs were forfeited and destroyed.
