160 patients written to after medical records found in ex-Manx Care employee's home

Healthcare provider has apologised to those affected

Manx Care's written to 160 patients after medical records were found in an ex-staff member's home last year.

The records in question relate to patients seen between 2000 and 2014.

They were found in the former employee's home in September 2023.

The incident was investigated by Manx Care’s Care Quality & Safety Lead for Community & Primary Care, as well as its Information Governance Team.

Details of the breach - along with the findings of the investigation - were shared with the Isle of Man Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) to ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018.

The ICO says it's 'content' with the manner in which Manx Care reported and responded to the situation and closed its investigation in November 2023.

The healthcare provider says its apologised to those affected and has reassured them that an investigation has happened into how this data breach occurred.

It says it's ensured the current safeguards have been further strengthened to avoid an incident like this happening again.
