£1K fine for man who had drunken fight in pub

22-year-old told behaviour was 'completely unacceptable'

A Port St Mary man has been fined £1,050 after a drunken fight just before Christmas.

Eoghan Patrick Thewlis, of Fistard Road, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly and being disorderly on licensed premises during an appearance at Douglas Courthouse.

The 22-year-old had been in The Union pub in Castletown, just before midnight on 22 December, when he started fighting with another man.

Both were ejected from the pub and the disagreement continued in the street outside.

Thewlis’ advocate told the court his client had since apologised to the landlord adding: "He was significantly intoxicated at the time of the offences. He accepts he’s in the wrong."

Fining Thewlis, and ordering him to pay prosecution costs of £125, Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood told him: “This is completely unacceptable behaviour.”
