23rd BIC Summit at Villa Marina

The Island is hosting the 23rd British-Irish Council (BIC) Summit today (Fri 28th)

The meeting at the Villa Marina is being attended by leaders and ministers from the eight BIC Member Administrations. It's the third time a British-Irish Council Summit has been held in the Isle of Man.

New First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon is present, along with Northern Island's Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness and Welsh first Minister Carwyn Jones.

Chief Minister of  Jersey Ian Gorst and Deputy Chief Minister of Guernsey Jonathan Le Tocq are also on the Island, whilst the UK representative is Northern Ireland's Secretary of State Theresa Villiers.

The BIC was established under the terms of the Good Friday peace agreement.

It aims to develop positive links between member countries and provide a platform for consultation and co-operation on matters of mutual interest.

Today's meeting will focus on digital inclusion, although the Council will also discuss the economic situation in their respective jurisdictions.
