£24,000 donation to improve access to child counselling

Manx Lottery Trust donation to Relate Isle of Man

More children and young adults will benefit from free one-to-one counselling sessions after a £24,000 cash donation towards reducing waiting times.

The Manx Lottery Trust has gifted the money to Relate Isle of Man which offers service for people aged between 10 and 25 years of age.

Demand for the service has doubled in the last six months.

One-to-one sessions can be held face to face, by telephone or on Zoom and are carried out weekly until the individual is in a better place.

Thelma Lomax, a trustee at Relate Isle of Man, said: "Young people often feel confused, upset or angry - sometimes they even blame themselves for what’s happening – so it’s important for them to know they have support on hand.

"The service is completely confidential so that a young person can speak confidently and will be encouraged to talk about their feelings and explore and begin to understand why they feel the way they do."

Counsellor Liz Wood says they can help when young people feel anxious, if they're having problems at home or if they just need someone to talk to:
