63-year-old credited for working with addiction charity
A Ballasalla man who breached an alcohol ban imposed by the courts four times in less than two weeks has been fined £400.
Roderick Paul Fitton, of Whitestone Terrace, flouted the rules on Christmas Eve, 29 December and 4 January.
The 63-year-old had tried to purchase alcohol at the Co-op, The Bridge Inn and at Tesco in Douglas; something the prosecutor described as ‘desperate attempts’.
During sentencing at Douglas Courthouse a probation officer told the court Fitton had ‘tried extremely hard’ to stop drinking.
Addressing paying a financial penalty Fitton’s advocate told the court: “Given that he is now sober there are some additional funds available and it’s hoped it will stay that way.”
Crediting him for working with an addiction charity High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told him: “You’ve put yourself back on the right track.”
Fitton was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £50.
