500% increase in parking charges for tradespeople to be questioned in Keys

Moorhouse to quiz DoI minister

The sharp rise in parking charges for tradespeople will be put under the spotlight in the House of Keys today (6 February).

Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse will quiz the infrastructure minister about what consultation and impact assessment was done before the price was hiked by 500 percent.

Up until 1 January 2024 a book of 10 ‘Tradesman Access Permits’ – equating to 10 days of parking in disc zones – cost £10.

It now costs £60 - you can find out more HERE.

There are 12 questions on the House of Keys order paper with another six tabled by Mr Moorhouse.

He’ll also quiz Tim Crookall about whether necessary land agreements, budget approvals, waste licenses and tender process have been completed to allow work to start on Balthane Roundabout.

There are questions too for the education, sport and culture minister and the cabinet office minister.

Julie Edge and Kate Lord-Brennan will be asked about the cost of retiling the NSC swimming pool and how Patrick residents were selected as temporary commissioners respectively.

Douglas East MHK Joney Faragher also has questions for Mrs Edge – she wants to know about potential sites for a new school and what’s happening on the Park Road site.

Douglas North MHK David Ashford will ask the justice and home affairs minister what consideration has been given to the regulation of deep fake technology.

He’s also tabled a question on the health of the economy.

The House of Keys will start at 10am - you can listen live on Manx Radio’s AM 1368 frequency or HERE.
