65-year-old charged with causing death of Douglas woman

Carolyn Buchan

Follows Marathon Avenue incident on 20 March

Police have confirmed a 65-year-old man from Douglas has been charged with causing death by driving without due care and attention.

It follows the death of 73-year-old Carolyn Buchan – her body was found on Marathon Avenue, just after 7am, on 20 March.

The individual, who was arrested two days ago, has also been charged with failing to stop at, and report, an accident.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Newey said: “This has been a complex investigation with numerous lines of enquiries involving CCTV, following up on information provided by the Manx public and specialist scientific support from the UK.

“All of this has come together to allow us to charge a 65-year-old man for these offences.

“My thoughts remain with the family and friends of Carolyn at this time."

Police have confirmed that the people arrested on 21 March on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving have been formally released from police bail and no further action will be taken.
