Aintree to continue as Island's ARMD provider

Tender process fails to identify alternative

Manx patients with age-related macular degeneration will continue to be treated by Aintree Hospital for the next year.

The Department of Health and Social Care had been seeking a new provider, but a tender process failed to find a high quality alternative.

As a result, specialists from the Merseyside hospital will continue its current service for at least the next 12 months.

Some patients are currently treated at Noble's by a visiting team of consultants from Aintree, while those with more complex conditions have to travel to Liverpool.

The DHSC says it's working to increase the capacity of the service on the Island so that fewer patients have to travel across.
