Amber rain warning for Island

Roads flooding

Motorists are being advised to take extra care on Island roads today (Wed 22) as heavy rain could lead to flooding in many areas.

The Department of Infrastructure says numerous roads are already reported as flooding including:

Abbeylands to Ballanard Rd
• Ballakeighan Corner
• Balthane Corner
• Top Road Eyreton to Strang...
• St Marks – Old Nurseries area
• Ballafletcher Road
• Glen Road Laxey
• Ballafesson Corner
• Strang Road by Church
• Phildraw to Silverdale

Also the A2 Main Road in Laxey and the Ballamodha

There's already been 10mm of rain recorded at Ronaldsway (as of 9 am) and rainfall totals of 25 to 30mm are expected, with a risk of 40 to 50mms over the hills.

An amber weather warning has been issued for localised flooding and coastal overtopping.

Gale force south to southwest winds could lead to problems at high tide both at lunchtime (1.25pm) and overnight (1.45am).

This is likely to bring waves and debris onto exposed roads - with Shore Road - Rushen, Castletown Promenade and the northern part of Douglas Prom particularly at risk.

As usual, the advice to drivers is to slow down and take extra care.

The public is being reminded that sandbags are available free of charge from public amenity sites around the Island . . and flood there's the flood assistance call line 850000
