An example which won't be forgotten

More tributes to outstanding Manxman

A man who had an "encyclopaedic knowledge of the Isle of Man and it's people and traditions".

So says the Chairman of the Manx Museum and National Trust Board of Trustees in his tribute to John Kennaugh who passed away this week after a short illness.

John served as a trustee for ten years between 2002 and 2012.

In his tribute, Tony Pass says John was an "outstanding Manxman who was respected and loved in so many areas of Island heritage and culture . . . and who gave freely of his gifts of public speaking, country lore, wisdom, kindness and humour".

He goes on, "John made a huge contribution to the ongoing protection and preservation of the Isle of Man’s heritage . . . only rarely in each generation is there a person with such talent and vitality. His loss will be mourned but his example will not be forgotten.”

Meanwhile, the Isle of Man and Bury branch manager of NFU Mutual, David Wilkinson, says the firm is deeply saddened by the news of John's death.

"He was well known to farmers of all ages and held in deep respect for his wisdom and tireless work to promote the interests of farmers on the Island."
