An ode to the Isle of Man wins writer the title of Manx Youth Bard

Fifth young person to be given the role

An ode to Ellan Vannin has secured the title of Manx Youth Bard for one Ballakermeen High School Student.

Hadassa Smith succeeds Iva Petrova as the fifth young person to be given the role.

The 15-year-old was inaugurated at the Henry Bloom Noble Library earlier this month.

She beat off stiff competition from fellow Ballakermeen students by wowing the judges with her poems 'Ellan Vannin', 'Puddles' and 'My Plum is Calling Me'.

Fellow 15-year-old Sophie Hindson captivated the judges with her poems 'The Life of Ink', 'Trapped' and 'Gone Without a Trace' alongside and 11-year-old Elizabeth-May Howard with her poems 'Roses Are Red', 'Ethereal' and 'Trying to Breathe'.

Hadassa says she hopes to inspire other people to put pen to paper:
