'Poor response' to election questions on pensions

A local pensioners' group says it's disappointed at the response to an election questionnaire from retiring MHKs.

The Isle of Man Pensioners' Association has written to all 64 candidates, asking if they support payment of the Manx pension supplement to all OAPs who have lived on the Island for more than ten years.

At present some Manx pensioners who paid their National Insurance contributions in the UK, miss out on the supplement, which is worth about £50 a week.

Association chairman Paul Chambers says response has been encouraging from new candidates, but only a handful of former MHKs have replied.

Mr Chambers says the result of the project will be published on the organisation's website for voters to see (listen to audio file below):
