It was agreed at its public board meeting last night

Andreas Commissioners will not be getting dog poo bag dispensers for the village.

The local authority agreed it wouldn’t be worth investing in for the village due to the cost of them.

The commissioners said that dog poo isn’t as prevalent across the parish as it used to be and the dispensers may not be necessary.

Clerk Maureen Callow told the board that the company had a minimum order of four at £250 each.

Commissioner Adam Silverston said it would be a lot of maintenance for four dispensers and installing them could discourage people from taking their own bags out with them.

The commissioners also agreed that dog owners who aren’t properly watching, for example if they’re off the lead or have an extendable lead, can often be a problem.

Chair Jackie Faragher believes residents seem to be taking their own bags with them and picking up the waste themselves.

The board considered getting a sponsor for the dispensers, however it was agreed that the money saved on these could be spent on other things, like new bins.

The clerk also confirmed that ‘no dog’ signs have arrived and will be put up around the park soon.

Also on the agenda was a discussion about a letter sent by the Department of Infrastructure asking if the commissioners would consider taking over the operation of the Northern Civic Amenity Site.

The board agreed that as an authority, it’s too small to be running the site and agreed to reply back suggesting a local business could take on the operation.

It also agreed to ask about the proposed budget for the site for the next financial year and specify that it feels quite late to be asking for this information when Ramsey Commissioners may be handing the site back in March.

A letter was also received from the Northern Parishes Refuse Board which said it would only be allocating a maximum of two bins per household in the parish.

If a household needs a second bin, these can be purchased for a one-off payment £100 plus VAT.

The clerk added that drivers will be notifying people who have more than one bin about future collections.

A youth club is in the process of being set up in the village hall for children aged 11 to 16.

Ms Faragher said an officer from the Department of Education, Sport and Culture is progressing the group and it is hoped to start soon.

She added that she hopes it will give the children somewhere to go during the week and a few people have volunteered to help out.

Andreas Commissioners will next meet on Tuesday 4 November.
