Committee hears about MSPCA work

The Isle of Man needs to improve its animal welfare legislation, using UK law as a template, a Tynwald committee has heard.

The two-person panel of South Douglas MHK Kate Beecroft and David Cretney MLC today heard from the MSPCA's sanctuary manager Lyn Renshaw, welfare officer Adrian Cannell and the body's veterinary surgeon Ray Cox.

Many areas of animal welfare and the nature of the MSPCA's work were covered, concentrating on the need or otherwise to change the Island's legislation - the main focus of the committee.

Speaking after the hearing, Mr Cox said a particular case has really highlighted the inadequacies of the current laws:
