'Appalling' CoMin pensions move - MHK

Little point in delay says PSPA vice chair

The integrity of the Council of Ministers is now 'highly, highly questionable', according to Michael MHK Alf Cannan.

He was speaking after CoMin's decision to delay a Tynwald debate on public sector pensions proposals for a couple of months.

This was reportedly done to allow members more time to consider the Public Sector Pensions Authority's plans.

But Mr Cannan was not happy with the move

However, the vice chair of the Public Sector Pensions Authority claims the two-month delay to a Tynwald debate about pensions will make little difference.

John Shimmin MHK says the decision was taken reluctantly, after some backbenchers said they needed more time to carry out inquiries.

He adds that it's important to get things right, particularly given how long the so-called legacy funding gap will be around for.
