Appeal for kayak funding has nothing to do with Beach Buddies or Sea Kayaking IOM

Online appeal is asking for £5,000 to clear coves of litter

Two local charities want to make it clear to the public that an online appeal for money has nothing to do with them.

Beach Buddies and Sea Kayaking Isle of Man are not associated with the appeal, which is asking for £5000 to help clear coves around the Manx coastline of marine rubbish.

The two organisations have organised a number of events with volunteers to clear coves in different parts of the Island and together are planning further events, however, all of these operations are carried out voluntarily for no charge.

Beach Buddies and Sea Kayaking Isle of Man have stated that they have no idea why £5,000 is needed to fund the new project.

Adding, whilst the cause is honourable, appealing for that amount of money, is not.

Beach Buddies has been in touch with the person behind the £5,000 appeal to ask what the money is for, but received no more detail further than information on the appeals Facebook page.

The page says: “We are in need of funding to help with the cost of safety equipment, personal protection equipment, wetsuits, waterproof jackets and footwear, extraction equipment/tools, kayaks, transport costs and more.”

Beach Buddies and Sea Kayaking Isle of Man went on to say that anyone is, of course, welcome to donate to the project, but specified it definitely has nothing to do with them.
