Police investigate racing death
Police have appealed for witnesses to yesterday's fatal accident during racing in this year's Southern 100.
James Cowton died following an accident between Stadium bends and Alexander Road traffic lights.
The incident occurred during the 600cc Challenge race and involved four riders. Ivan Lintin remains in a critical condition in a Hospital in Liverpool, whilst Jamie Coward has shoulder injuries and Manx rider Michael Evans has leg and arm injuries.
Police are conducting an investigation on behalf of the Coroner for Inquests. It's being led by a senior detective and includes officers from the Southern Neighbourhood policing team, SOCO officers, collision investigators from the Roads Policing Unit, and vehicle examiners from the Department of Infrastructure.
They say a large number of witnesses have already been spoken to and details taken . . . but they are very interested in speaking to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has video footage of the racing that has captured what happened.
Anyone who may have relevant information is asked to contact police headquarters on 631 212.
