Approval sought to keep marquee at Nunnery for three years

Testing 'commercial viability' of event venue

Planning permission has been requested to extend the time an event venue can stay in-situ at The Nunnery.

The International Centre for Technology has asked for a further three years to test the 'commercial viability' of its semi-permanent marquee structure.

Approval for the marquee, which sits on the former swimming pool site, was originally granted in April 2019.

ICT Ltd had planned to test whether it was sustainable to hold events in it and if that interest would support a permanent event building.

However after delays with construction and erection, bad weather and Covid-19 it says those plans have experienced 'significant disruption'.

Lockdowns forced the cancellation of a number of large events scheduled to take place including a valentines ball, apres ski party and the Extraordinary Islanders celebration.

Due to this the applicant says it's not had a 'sustained period of time' where the economic sustainability of events could be 'meaningfully tested'.

The application to vary the planning permission, to keep the temporary structure in place for a further 36 months, is currently under consideration.
