Architecture set to improve

Petitioner says government has ignored the issue for far too long

The quality of the Island's architecture and built environment should be set to improve.

Last month Tynwald unanimously approved a motion welcoming the formation of the Building Conservation Forum and encouraging the review of Government policies regarding the built environment. It also noted the launch of the Isle of Architecture.

The BCF was formed following a petition for redress presented on Tynwald Day 2015 by Charles Guard, who was concerned about the government's stewardship of the historic built environment.

Mr Guard says they're not wanting to stand in the way of progress - but the issue has been ignored by government for far too long.
