Artefact could lead to identification of keeil sites

Cross slab re-discovered in a cupboard

A artefact found at the deserted Chester Farm in Michael could lead the way to identifying new keeil sites on the Island.

The carved cross fragment was found by the late Roy Kennaugh, and left at the Michael Community Civic Centre, only to be re-discovered again in a cupboard by Michael Heritage Trust.

The stone slab has now been handed to Manx National Heritage for analysis.

Numerous ancient crosses have been found close to Michael churchyard and are on display there, but this latest find bucks the trend according to Mike Clauge of the Michael Heritage Trust.
