Assisted dying sparks five-hour Tynwald debate

Members back amendment to note debate

The subject of assisted dying resulted in a five-hour debate in Tynwald, with accusations the motion was "disrespectful".

Members voted on an amendment to Dr Alex Allinson's original item, noting the debate rather than backing further investigation of the issue.

The Ramsey MHK told the court his motion was designed to spark discussion:

Douglas East member Chris Robertshaw was among those to speak out against the proposals during the sitting.

He believes it was unfair to put members in such a position:

David Ashford's amendment to note the debate received unanimous support from both branches.
