Association chief's warning to Manx trolls

Anonymous social media accounts face public backlash

A parliamentary advisor has warned would-be 'trolls' that treating politicians with malice online can undermine the democratic process.

Ahmed Khan is Secretary-General to the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.

He's been here visiting the Island's legislature and school pupils this week.

There are several popular discussion groups on social media related to Manx news and politics - many of which feature input from Tynwald members themselves.

A number of anonymous Twitter accounts have also prompted public backlash for their vitriol towards local political figures.

While Mr Khan praised the 'close knit' nature of Manx politics, he also said the conduct of some users was 'saddening':
