Litter anticipated on Manx land and beaches
A balloon release in Northern Ireland has been labelled 'horrendous' by an environmental group on the Isle of Man.
Over the weekend, bevereament charity Life After Loss held their annual balloon release despite Belfast city council having a voluntary ban in place for such events.
The Manx Wildlife Trust has raised concerns the balloon debris will make its way to the Island's shores and has suggested the council should be 'invoiced accordingly'.
They are advising anyone who finds a balloon with the words 'life after loss' to contact them.
Earlier this year, the Isle of Man government announced its 'Single Use Plastics Reduction Plan' whereby a ban on balloon releases was to come in effect immediately.
It states 'whilst balloon releases by government organisations are rare, they are still carried out in the public sector. The intention is to minimise pollution and risk to wildlife.'
