Ban for teen driver who ignored speed limit

17-year-old stopped on South Quay

A teenager from Onchan has been disqualified from driving for 28 days after being caught travelling at nearly double the speed limit.

Oliver Tadeusz Carroll was driving at 53mph in the 30 zone, on South Quay in Douglas, on 13 October last year.

The 17-year-old, of King Edward Road, was stopped by police who were carrying out speed enforcement.

Carroll, who had only had his driving licence for two months, was witnessed overtaking the car in front at speed - near the RNLI station - at 9:46pm.

During sentencing at Douglas Courthouse Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood told Carroll, who’d pleaded guilty, his actions ‘could have had serious consequences’.

Fining him £350, and ordering him to pay £50 in prosecution costs, Carroll was told he will also have to keep his R-plates on for an additional two years.
