"The reason Beach Buddies was created"
One of the Island's best-known canine companions has passed away.
George, the West Highland Terrier who is credited as being part of the "reason why (Beach Buddies) was created all those years ago", died peacefully in the charity's truck yesterday morning (Mon 30).
George was the youngest of all five original Beach Buddies' dogs, and had been struggling for some time with lung disease.
Charity founder Bill Dale said: "I am very sad, very very sad. But George was the epitome of what this is all about. This lovely little dog leaves such an important positive message that we cannot ever, ever forget."
Bill also acknowledged: "George was diagnosed a long time ago, but you always try to stay optimistic, and it's fair to say he lasted so much longer than expected, which is entirely down to his quite exceptional inner strength and personality."
