Beach Buddies to attempt another record

11 events in one day - including Calf!

FIM Capital Beach Buddies is out to break another record this weekend (16/17)

The charity is joining forces with the Year of Our Island team and government staff to hold eleven events in one day at different beaches around the Island.

Having earlier this year broken their previous record for volunteers on one day with nine events on nine beaches with Barclays Bank, the charity is hoping it can beat the figure of 299 volunteers set in April.

Staff working in all government departments have been invited to take part on Sunday, starting at 10.30am.

Beaches included this time are Ramsey North, Port Soderick, Ballaugh, Douglas, Laxey, Peel, Niarbyl, Langness, Port Erin and the Calf of Man.

A private event is also being held at Sartfield, Jurby.

Any Beach Buddies volunteers who are able to help with supervising (which will be for no more than two hours) should get in touch with Bill Dale by email.

A minimum of one volunteer at each of the beaches is needed, apart from the Calf of Man event, which is being organised by the warden.

Volunteers at all 11 sites should be aware of nesting seabirds - especially at Ballaugh and Langness - and must not to go into areas where birds such as terns and oystercatchers lay their eggs.
